Governors Island lies just 800 yards from the southern tip of Manhattan and even closer to Brooklyn. Its 172 acres comprise a historic district dotted with buildings from across its 200-plus-year history and over 120 acres of award-winning open space.


Once known only as a seasonal destination, Governors Island is now open to the public year-round. Visitors flock to experience its stunning parkland, intriguing history, fantastic food and drink offerings and diverse roster of engaging public programs—now including a unique lineup of all-season activities.


Organizations of all sizes and purposes from across New York and the world have hosted events on Governors Island, including live concerts, cultural festivals, art fairs, science symposiums, theatrical performances, film screenings, galas, celebrations and many more. Governors Island offers flexibility for its venues outside of the Island’s regular operating hours, providing a year-round destination for distinctive events.

Colonels Row

Standing: up to 4,000
Governors Island features a fenced in and secluded shady, green space, The Colonels Row Festival Grounds, which can be reserved for large events. This beautiful, outdoor space holds up to 4,000 people, and although Colonels Row does not have any water views, it is centrally located on the Island.

Picnic Point

Versatile venue with spectacular Statue of Liberty and harbor views. Great for corporate outings, picnics, festivals and performances.

Nolan Park

Nolan Park is a four-acre manicured green, surrounded by houses and buildings that date back to 1810. Nolan Park has brick walking paths and London Plane trees throughout, so the lawn space is naturally shaded by trees. The historic homes around the perimeter create an intimate setting for programs.

    Event organizers are responsible for securing a permit from the New York State Liquor Authority to serve alcohol at their event. The Trust must receive a copy of the permit and approve all logistical plans for the area where alcohol will be served. Visitors are not permitted to bring their own alcohol to Governors Island.

  • How do my guests get to Governors Island?

    Ferry service to Governors Island is fast, frequent and easily scalable, running to the Island year-round from the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan. On weekends during the peak season, Governors Island ferries also run from Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6 and Red Hook/Atlantic Basin in Brooklyn. The Coursen, one of the Trust for Governors Island’s two passenger ferries, can accommodate up to 1,100 passengers and 36 cars and trucks per 8-minute voyage. NYC Ferry also runs daily, year-round public ferry service to Governors Island.
