Immigrants’ Perspectives: Celebrating Thanksgiving
IMMIGRANTS’ PERSPECTIVES: CELEBRATING THANKSGIVING By Georgette Farkas Thanksgiving is a time that we celebrate with loved ones and share our food with our gratitude. This
Goodie Goodness presents online tutorials in How To Serenade a Man. A combination of comedy, dating tips, and ukulele. A kind of “girl power”, “ladies can serenade too” type of inspiration. Erin Goodwin, the creator of the tutorials, came up with the idea based on real-life experiences. Poking fun at the idea of “dating advice”, and when it comes down to it, we all want to find the same thing. Love. And the idea that most of the time, we don’t really need dating advice, we already know the answers.

A performer first and foremost, he misses the sage and performing.
I feel like the stage is a scared space that allows all artists to heal. It’s magical.
He’ll be performing in 2020’s 1st VIRTUAL Cabaret Convention usually held at Lincoln Center. He also performed at Carnegie Hall last year for the Mabel Mercer Foundation.

Hey, ya’ll! My name is Kat Liz Kramer and I’m a singer/songwriter currently living in NYC. My roots are in musical theatre and ballet and that informs my indie folk/rock music. I’ve been writing new songs for several years and performing them in and around the city. With live music venues shut down it became clear that now was the time to make my first full-length album! In these terrible times music is what can bring people together and lift their spirits. It can also help them heal. Music is my therapy! I am currently working with my friend and fellow singer/songwriter Kyle Motsinger on preparing to record the album. He has brought onboard several incredible (unemployed) Broadway musicians and I’m co-writing with composer Mark Oleszko on the project. I suffer from extreme anxiety and my music is a release and a way of working through it. I hope others will be able to relate. The album is a collection of my thoughts and my emotions swirled together in a tornado of glitter and passion. I hope to raise $8,000 to pay the musicians, the engineers, and production staff. This is very affordable for an album but much more than one person can afford on their own in the middle of a global pandemic where survival work is uncertain and bills don’t care about a virus. I am ever so grateful for the opportunity to share my heART.

It’s been a year of change for us at Great Performances. From moving to the Bronx and getting involved with our new neighbors (read about our Thinkubator project) to dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and all the pivots, we haven’t had a moment to pause.
But right now, we want to take a moment to share some holiday spirit.
We’ve updated our Katchkie Farm CSA Cookbook first produced in 2015 by Suzannah and Andrew, our 2015 Katchkie Farm NYC CSA Team. We’ve kept many of our favorite recipes, but added some new ones from Georgette Farkas, our culinary ambassador, and from Emilia Sochovka, MS, RDN, CPT, who works with us on Embrace Wellness.
We hope you enjoy these recipes as much as we do — and share your photos with us @gpfood and @katchkiefarm.
To go with the recipes, our young neighbors who participated in the Thinkubator project have submitted a playlist that’s sure to get your feet tapping and heads bopping as you prepare these recipes.

Necessity is the mother of invention — or in our case, of reinvention.
Physical events have always been our dinner rolls and cultured butter at Great Performances and we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to return to those days. But with the restraints imposed by Covid and the need to ensure our clients’, guests’ and staff’s health and safety, we’ve pivoted our business in many different ways.
RDP, our events arm at Great Performances, has more than 40 years of event production experience across 26 countries and 65 cities. With a diverse portfolio including physical and virtual events, we’re delighted to launch the newest iteration, RDP Virtual Events.
Under the aegis of seasoned caterer and event production manager Ronnie Davis, our in house team of experts are ready to provide strategic, consultative and production services for virtual events.
“Virtual events are nothing new to us,” explains Ronnie. “We’ve been doing this for years. The only difference is that now RDP Virtual Events is fully focused on this as a way to continue help our clients strengthen their relationships, engage their guests, and share their vision.”

We reopened to the public on September 12 and were so excited to see a wonderful turnout from our visitors, cherished members, and surrounding community. In a time of great uncertainty and profound isolation, I'm hopeful that visitors will continue to look to the Museum to find comfort during these trying times, and that our exhibitions and many new programs that we've launched outside on our plaza remain a source of inspiration and fun.
