Join us for an evening of fashion as food for thought, featuring a lively and insightful panel discussion on Indian fashion, sustainability and Indian women’s roles within India’s rich culture of textiles and design. Foregrounding the local traditions and artisans behind global fashion, the evening features a panel with speakers from the fashion industry with a focus on ethical and slow fashion, alongside a showcase of artisanal textiles and beading. Celebrate the opening of Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies through close looking, conversation, and a tribute performance by Francisco Mora Catlett and AfroHORN.
Begin with a behind-the-scenes tour of the exhibition led by curators Catherine Morris and Dalila Scruggs. Afterward, art historians, artists, and museum leaders discuss Catlett’s resounding legacy. These conversations explore participants’ personal memories of the artist, the championing of Catlett’s art by Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and her practice in the context of cultural movements for Black liberation.
The evening culminates with a tribute performance by Catlett’s son, drummer and composer Francisco Mora Catlett, accompanied by the New York–based jazz ensemble AfroHORN and Oyu Oro. An Afro-Cuban dance company, Oyu Oro’s traditional repertoire pays homage to African lineages derived from the Yoruba, Congo, Carabali, Arara, and Dahomean cultures of West Africa and Haiti.

Named Musician of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association in 2018, Wilson’s “Honey and Salt” also earned Album of the Year that year. To celebrate the centennial of iconic bebop pioneer, pianist/composer Bud Powell on September 27, Jazz at Lincoln Center presents In Walked Savion Glover and ELEW—a uniquely curated event of tap dance and piano for three nights only. Legendary tapper Savion Glover, who rose to fame at age 12 in “The Tap Dance Kid,” brings his improvisational mastery to the stage. Glover said, “I came up in live performance and it was improvisation. There are no double takes.” He will be joined by pianist and former JLCO member Eric Lewis (ELEW), who shares, “There’s something amazing about the connection he [Glover] and I have in the music. Crazy amazing. This JALC run will be magnificent and must-see performances.”

Join Chromic Duo (musicians-composers Dorothy Chan and Lucy Yao) for the launch of how fragile, we bloom, an immersive soundwalk created for Wave Hill in collaboration with its Art, Community, Education and Science (ACES) youth interns using Augmented Reality (AR).
Alongside Chromic Duo’s sound design, narration and composition, stories from the ACES have been incorporated into a site-specific, meditative soundwalk that invites audiences to reflect upon this current moment in history. The ACES stories speak to individual and collective experiences, creating a storytelling capsule. Through communal creation and connection, Chromic Duo provides a platform for Wave Hill visitors to contemplate the ways that seasons bring change, their own relationships to nature and the larger community, and ultimately, how to support one another through times of uncertainty.
The launch event begins in the newly renovated Glyndor Terrace Garden with an introduction to the soundwalk and live musical performance by Chromic Duo. The artists then lead participants on a guided tour of the soundwalk through Wave Hill’s Herbert & Hyonja Abrons Woodland. The event culminates with a group reflection with the artists.

A transformative $33 million renovation of The Bronx Museum is currently underway!
Designed by award-winning architectural practice, Marvel, this renovation will create a world-class arts facility the people of The Bronx deserve and that the Museum needs to further elevate and expand access to its vital free arts programming.
The renovation will seamlessly unite the Museum’s buildings into one recognizable campus; create a continuous and fully accessible gallery loop; reorient the main entrance to the highly visible corner of 165th St and Grand Concourse; and add a new triple-height lobby space with an adjoining cafe.
During construction, the Museum’s North Wing remains open at regular hours—Wednesday through Sunday from 11AM to 6PM—with free admission for everyone to all exhibitions, events, and activities. The south galleries are closed until the renovation is complete.

With its extensive views of the water, Soundview Park celebrates the beauty of both the Bronx and East Rivers. The Aeolian Trio Concert

Van Cortlandt Park Alliance presents The Aeolian Trio as part of their 3-week US tour.
Original compositions for shakuhachi flute, acoustic guitar, and Uduboo drum, an African Ud made from bamboo.
The shakuhachi, a Japanese traditional bamboo flute that is rooted in Zen Buddhism, meets the guitar, a Spanish folk instrument that became a giant of jazz, rock, and pop. In ancient times, the shakuhachi was carried from the Middle East to Japan on the fabled Silk Road. Meanwhile, the guitar springs from flamenco and Renaissance traditions, and has antecedents in the Middle Eastern Oud. These seemingly disparate traditions separated by two continents spring from the same cradle of civilization.
Now, centuries later, in California, Tokyo, and New York, Japanese guitarist Kôfû Suwa and shakuhachi master Bruce Huebner join New York-based percussionist Todd Isler to reunite these ancient traditions and bring them into the 21st century. In their concert, we hear how the melisma and phrygian Spanish mode is answered by the nuances of the Japanese miyako mode of the Zen bamboo flute, and how the rich rhythmic traditions of South and Central Asia underpin the fusion.

Join us to celebrate forty-seven years of Asian American cinematic programming, in partnership with Asian CineVision. We’re pleased to host the opening night of this year’s Asian American International Film Festival with an impactful and poignant opening screening, followed by a performance, Q-and-A, and reception.
With opening film Nobuko Miyamoto: A Song in Movement, filmmakers Tadashi Nakamura and Quyên Nguyen-Le deftly explore Nobuko Joanne Miyamoto’s decades of groundbreaking cultural work that has united communities, set the bar for Asian American storytelling, and encapsulates this year’s theme of memory, reconnection and vibrant Asian American community. Singer, dancer, and long-time activist of the AAPI community Nobuko Miyamoto rounds off the fifty-five minute film with a live performance, accompanied by Derek Nakamoto. There will then be a Q&A with Nobuko Miyamoto and filmmakers Tadashi Nakamura and Quyên Nguyen-Le. Roger Ferney-Cortés invokes the iconic “paletero” street cart vendor of popsicles and ice cream in his interactive mobile sculpture, Johny Paleta. Fabricated to scale on wheels, the sculpture is composed of a retractable mirrored infinity cube visible through a series of apertures shaped after flora found at Wave Hill. Visitors are invited to peer into a microcosm that reflects and refracts their faces and bodies, the environment and light, capturing a fleeting moment in the garden. On Sat, Jul 20 at 3PM and on Sat, Aug 10 at 1PM, Johny Paleta will traverse the grounds of Wave Hill, offering a playful and interactive artwork that reflects the beauty of visitors and their communities, and serves as an homage to the street vendor culture of immigrant communities in the Bronx and beyond. Designed by award-winning architectural practice, Marvel, this renovation will create a world-class arts facility the people of The Bronx deserve and that the Museum needs to further elevate and expand access to its vital free arts programming.
The renovation will seamlessly unite the Museum’s buildings into one recognizable campus; create a continuous and fully accessible gallery loop; reorient the main entrance to the highly visible corner of 165th St and Grand Concourse; and add a new triple-height lobby space with an adjoining cafe.
During construction, the Museum’s North Wing remains open at regular hours—Wednesday through Sunday from 11AM to 6PM—with free admission for everyone to all exhibitions, events, and activities. The south galleries are closed until the renovation is complete.

Wave Hill invites you to a fine art photo portrait session with exhibiting artist Ruben Natal-San Miguel on Sat, Aug 3 from 1:30 to 4:30 PM. This session is organized as part of the solo photography exhibition Ruben Natal-San Miguel: Nature Finds a Way, in Wave Hill House, and Perfect Trouble: Queering Natureculture, at Glyndor Gallery.
The exhibition Nature Finds a Way brings together portraits, with a particular focus on the Bronx, showcasing individuals in both real and synthetic nature. Through these images, Natal-San Miguel challenges aesthetic and cultural norms by foregrounding the diverse tapestry of urban life, and how city dwellers both seek and are affected by nature in their lives. The group exhibition Perfect Trouble: Queering Natureculture presents the work of artists who both challenge the way nature is used to uphold standards of normativity and recognize that the nature-culture divide, and other theoretical binaries, are arbitrary.
Visitors are invited to have their fine art photo portrait taken by Ruben Natal-San Miguel on the grounds of Wave Hill. Each sitter will receive a free high-resolution image file of their portrait, emailed to participants at a later date.

This is where you put the GP intro to the recipe – who is sharing it, call out the features, what meals, how to combine into a meal, etc. This should be about 50 words long.
I selected the specific items because they are local and pair well with an outdoor barbecue. I was inspired by Tim Stark’s Book, Heirloom: Notes from an Accidental Tomato Farmer, which is a super cool book and inside look at how the heirloom tomato craze came about.
Grilled Corn and Tomato Panzanella Salad

Serves 4-6
Ingredients
5 ears jersey bi-color corn, cleaned
5 assorted Eckerton Farms Heirloom Tomatoes (or your local heirloom tomatoes)
2 shallots, finely minced
1 clove garlic, microplaned
2 oranges, segmented
1 cup torn fresh basil
1/4 cup torn fresh mint
Olive Oil
Sherry Vinegar
1/2 loaf leftover bread or baguette (cornbread also works well)
Procedure
- Season corn with salt & pepper. Drizzle with olive oil and then grill. After they get a nice char, cut the kernels from the cobs on a cutting board and set aside.
- Take your bread and slice in to 1″ slices. Drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper then grill. Let cool. Cut in to 1″ x 1″ Cubes and set aside.
- Wash the tomatoes and cut them in to 1 inch pieces. I like to cut them in to different sizes and shapes for a more rustic look.
- Remove the skin from the oranges with a knife by cutting the top and bottom of the orange slightly so you have a flat surface to work on. Then take the segments out 1 by 1 making sure not to get any of the white bitter membrane in there.
- To prepare the dressing: in a mixing bowl, add the shallots, garlic, 1 cup orange juice, 3 tbsp sherry vinegar, 1 cup olive oil, the torn basil, and torn mint and whisk together.
- In a large bowl, add tomatoes, grilled corn, oranges, season with salt and pepper then add in the dressing.
- Lastly, fold in the croutons, then the salad is ready to enjoy.

Chef Solanki Roy shares a recipe for Tandoori Chicken, a savory chicken dish typically baked in a Tandoor, or Indian clay oven heated with charcoal. Each region and household in India will have their own secret blend of spices and Chef Solanki generously shares one of her family’s favorite mixes. Our tip: make a big batch of the dry spice mix in Chef Solanki’s recipe to use on a variety of different applications from chef’s Tandoor chicken to roasted vegetables.
Barbeque reminds me of Tandoor (Tandoor is an Indian clay oven, where charcoal is used). I am sharing a recipe of Tandoori chicken which is perfect for summer barbeque. Tandoori chicken has various versions and changes in different regions and households of India and everyone has their own secret blend of spices. Here is a recipe which I have modified to use at our home with ease. And don’t worry, we won’t need a Tandoor (Indian Clay Oven); it cooks very well in our regular ovens.
Tandoori Chicken

Serves 4
Ingredients
800 grams chicken (preferably skinless, bone-in pieces)
150 grams plain yogurt (preferably Greek yogurt)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons tandoori masala powder
1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon paprika or Kashmiri red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) and lemon wedges for garnish
Procedure
Marinating the Chicken
Wash and pat dry the chicken pieces.
In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, tandoori masala powder, ginger garlic paste, ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika or red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to form a smooth marinade.
Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for best flavor.
Cooking the Chicken
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high heat.
Line a baking tray with aluminum foil and grease it lightly with oil. Arrange the marinated chicken pieces on the tray, leaving space between them. Drizzle the vegetable oil evenly over the chicken pieces.
Baking or Grilling the Chicken
We will be baking in our ovens as everyone doesn’t have a tandoor at their home, modifying for our urban lives.
Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred around the edges. You can also grill the chicken over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and nicely charred.
Serving
Once fully cooked, remove the chicken from the oven or grill. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) and lemon wedges. Serve hot with naan bread, rice, or salad.

Arepas are flatbread made from ground maize and are typically found in parts of South America, predominantly in Columbia and Venezuela, but can also be found in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Central America. They’re the perfect vehicle for cheeses and meats, and in this case cheese and chorizo with the herbal, garlicky bite of chimichurri cutting through the richness. Enjoy Chef Tatiana’s recipe!
I’m originally from Colombia, and this is a recipe we use a lot to accompany BBQ. The bright, herby chimichurri is a perfect match for rich meats.
Arepas with Cheese, Chorizo, and Chimichurri Sauce

Ingredients
Arepa Ingredients:
- 4 arepas grilled
- 4 Colombian chorizos grilled sliced
- 5 oz Colombian Style Fresh Cheese crumbled
Chimichurri Sauce Ingredients:
- 1 garlic clove peeled
- 1 cup fresh parsley
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro
- 2 tablespoons chopped
- green onions
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to your taste
Procedure
- To prepare chimichurri sauce: Place all the chimichurri ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth. Transfer to a container. You can cut them by hand if you prefer.
- To assemble arepas: Place the arepas on a serving plate, top with crumbled cheese and cooked chorizo. Drizzle chimichurri sauce on top of the chorizo and serve immediately.

- Fill a tall glass with ice. Combine all ingredients in the glass and stir until combined. Garnish with a pineapple slice or citrus slice of your choosing.

What’s a Summer barbeque without Pulled Pork? Chef Alan Hepner shares his favorite recipe adapted from Gordon Ramsey’s. He has been making this recipe for years and it never fails. As a special kick, he added his own Pickled Jalapeno Mayo. Enjoy this as is or in a sandwich, alongside your favorite bbq sides.
Pulled Pork

Serves 6-8
Ingredients
Pulled Pork Ingredients:
- One pork shoulder
- 4 onions
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 3 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Fresh thyme
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil
Pickled Jalapeño Mayo Ingredients:
300g plain mayonnaise
4 tablespoons chopped pickled jalapeños
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon wholegrain mustard
Salt and pepper
Procedure
Make the Pulled Pork
- Take a mixing bowl and add your crushed garlic alongside the paprika, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Mix this until well combined and then slowly add olive soil to the mixture until it becomes a paste. Add the fresh thyme but make sure to keep the thyme stalks.
- Pour your marinade onto the pork and massage it into the skin. Drizzle some olive oil on top of the pork in order to keep it moist. The longer you let it marinade the better it will taste. Ideally, place in the fridge two to three days prior to cooking for the ideal pulled pork.
- Once the pork has been marinated and you are ready to serve, preheat the oven to 140C/284F.
- Cut the onions into quarters and let them sit at the bottom of the pan. Add the thyme stalks on top of the onions and then place the pork shoulder on top.
- The slower you cook the pork, the juicer and more tender it will be. Place your pork shoulder in the oven and cook for around five and a half to six hours, until the pork is falling off the bone.
- Once the pork has been cooked, remove it from the tray, cover it in tinfoil and let it rest for half an hour.
- You will be able to easily remove the pork from the bone using a fork. Place in a bowl and your deliciously tender pulled pork is ready.
Make the Pickled Jalapeño Mayo:
- Simply add several tablespoons of mayonnaise to a small bowl. Then add honey, the chopped pickled jalapeño and wholegrain mustard along with some salt and pepper. Stir together and serve with your pulled pork.
