Our farrotto kit is the start of a delicious homemade dinner, as tasty as it is simple to prepare.
Farro is an ancient grain with a nutty flavor and chewy texture that can be prepared like a risotto. We’ve added our own blend of herbs, to get the recipe started. This season, we suggest butternut squash for its natural sweetness and smooth texture. But the Great Performances Farrotto Blend (farro, dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onion, thyme, and sage) would be delicious with any number of winter vegetables, such as carrot and celery, or root vegetables including beets, parsnips, turnips and more, not to mention mushrooms. What’s in your fridge?
Serves Four
*GP Farrotto Blend contains farro, dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic, sage, and thyme

OPTIONAL: Garnish with slices of roasted butternut squash and sprinkle toasted pumpkin seeds.
Rawia Bishara, the Palestinian-American chef and proprietor of the Brooklyn-based restaurant Tanoreen has received widespread acclaim for her Middle Eastern culinary creations from some of the most respected food critics and publications including The New York Times, The Village Voice, The Michelin Guide, Zagat, and others. She is the author of three cookbooks: Olives, Lemon and Za’atar (Kyle Books), Levant: New Middle Eastern Flavours (Kyle Books), and Hummus, Bulgur & Za’atar (Fackelträger Verlag GmbH).
Following years of frequent dinner parties and teaching friends how to cook, chef Rawia decided to open a restaurant to share a simple idea: cooking delicious Palestinian & Middle Eastern food as she does for family and friends, but with her unique twists.
In 1998, Tanoreen opened as a ten table storefront in Brooklyn, NY. Rawia’s innovative cuisine inspired her daughter Jumana Bishara to join her mother’s business and since then they have expanded to a larger location. Tanoreen’s cookery style was born first and foremost as a form of expression inspired by Rawia’s mom and then influenced by her time traveling abroad and living in the New York.
Rawia describes herself as the daughter of a passionate, imaginative home cook. Jumana can now describe herself as the daughter of a passionate, imaginative restaurateur and author.

Georgette Farkas shares her recipe for this very grown-up version of a rich and very dark chocolate pudding to share with your special someone.
Charles Gabriel was born October 12, 1947 near Charlotte, North Carolina. He was one of twelve brothers and eight sisters. His parents were sharecroppers. The family – including Charles from the age of six – picked cotton from 6am to 6pm on a nearby plantation. In the evening, his mother would cook for the entire family. In his mother’s kitchen, Charles learned to prepare the food we all enjoy today.
At seventeen, Charles moved to New York City to work for an older brother who had opened a restaurant on the Upper West Side. A few years later, he began working at the legendary Copeland’s Restaurant in Hamilton Heights where he stayed for over twenty years rising to the position of head cook.
By the mid 1980’s, Charles decided to go off on his own. He started cooking out of his Harlem apartment, putting a folding table in front of his building to serve his first customers. One day, a woman asked Charles whether he wanted to buy her food truck. They agreed he would pay her $25 per week until the food truck was paid off. Charles ran his food truck for five years; building his reputation in Harlem and beyond.
Charles’s first brick and mortar restaurant was on 8th Avenue between 152nd and 153rd Streets. His “take out” spot was soon joined by his “breakfast” spot and his legendary “buffet.” He operated all three locations for over twenty years.
Now, in 2021, Charles is opening a new series of Charles Pan-Fried Chicken restaurants. He’s starting in Harlem and the Upper West Side and then, who knows.

A musical journey to the Middle East featuring oud virtuoso Naseer Shamma
There will be a free pre-concert lecture at 7pm for each performance
Middle East Meditations is a milestone event in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s distinguished history. Marsalis and JLCO collaborate with revered Iraqi oud virtuoso, composer, educator, musicologist and UNESCO Artist for Peace Naseer Shamma, blending the magical flavors of the Tigris River with Mississippi River-descended swing. Friends since they met in Abu Dhabi in 2010, the two visionaries—whose first formal concert together in 2017, in Marciac, France, was reviewed as an “unprecedented fusion” between jazz and the millennia-old short-necked forerunner of the lute—will perform together for the first time at Jazz at Lincoln Center, undertaking new works arranged by Marsalis, Shamma and orchestra members. The occasion marks the first time that the JLCO has hosted and featured an Iraqi artist. Immediately following these shows in the House of Swing (and Oud), the JLCO with Special Guest Naseer Shamma will tour select cities around the United States.
Naseer Shamma appears in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Festival.
Poster House Members are invited to a private tour of Bruno Munari: The Child Within at the Center for Italian Modern Art in SoHo. Munari was an accomplished artist, inventor, graphic designer, and a designer of objects who prioritized the idea of play in all his work. This exhibition focuses on the children’s books that he wrote, designed, and illustrated. These books were not meant just to be seen, but to be interacted with as conduits for play and imagination.
Poster House is pleased to partner with Kapoor Galleries for this exclusive tour of their space in honor of Air-India’s Maharaja: Advertising Gone Rogue. As the curatorial juggernaut behind this incredible exhibition, Kapoor Galleries approached the posters from the perspective of India’s rich artistic heritage. Now is your chance to see museum-quality pieces that inspired many of the posters on view in the show, from miniature paintings to ancient bronze sculptures.
Led by the owner and director of Kapoor Galleries, Sanjay Kapoor, this private tour of the gallery will introduce you to dazzling imagery and a deeper appreciation for Indian art.
